The Montclair Bread Company is holding their second annual “5K Doughnut Run” on Dec. 12 at 8 a.m. starting at Walnut Street and Greenwood Avenue.

The event is hosted by Montclair Bread Company. All doughnuts will be provided by Montclair Bread Company with coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters and hot chocolate from Ronnybrook Dairy. All racers will receive a long sleeve technical race shirt and a finisher’s medal. Doughnuts, coffee and hot chocolate will be provided after every mile, including the post race party. Top three finishers in each age group will receive a commemorative “Montclair Bread Company Doughnut Run” coffee mug.

This is an all ages, community event which mean strollers are welcomed. People of all different exercise capabilities are encouraged to join the event and to feel free to walk the course and enjoy some doughnuts along the way. The event will take place in rain, sleet, snow or shine. All entries are non-refundable and are not transferable to another event and no refunds will be given under any circumstance.

Proceeds from Montclair Bread Company’s 5K Doughnut Run will benefit the Human Needs Food Pantry of Montclair. Although the event is sold out,  you can still sign up to volunteer by emailing run@montclairbread.com.

“Other than doughnuts, my favorite thing about the run is that so many people have signed up, especially people that haven’t run before or are more casual runners.  Its really open to everyone.  There’s something about running for doughnuts that most everyone can get behind.  That’s part of the idea behind our Fueled by Doughnuts merchandise,” said Director of Operations at MBC, Jessica Woodward.

So how does owner Rachel Crampsey have time to not only bake the treats, spend time with her children and husband and organize a 5K for the community? It probably has to do with her business motto, “fueled by doughnuts.” Crampsey began exercising regularly after the bakery’s 5K last year and she just completed her first New York City Marathon.

“It’s about fitness and pushing myself,” said Crampsey, “but it’s also when I catch up with my friends. Running is when I get my best doughnut ideas.”

At the Dec. 12 event, Crampsey will officially launch the “Fueled by Doughnuts” Running Club to encourage the community and display the importance of health and fitness.

If you are signed up for the 5K event, packet pick up is at Fleet Feet at 603 Bloomfield Ave. You can pick up your packet on Thursday, Dec. 10 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. or on Friday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can also pick up your packet at the Montclair Bread Company Label Street building on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. before the race begins.
