Montclair State University swim/dive teams support Make Some Noise.
Looking for something exhilarating and fun? Look no more! Come out to see the Montclair State University’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams in their fight against childhood cancer. Every year, the teams compete to support the Make Some Noise charity, where all of the proceeds from the meet will be donated.
Make Some Noise was founded in 2008 by 10-year-old Malcolm, who was diagnosed with pelvic Ewing’s Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer in his hip. He began this organization with a mission to help others through a foundation of private funding from a variety of activities and events. Not only did Malcolm want to beat his own cancer, but ultimately promote awareness and raise money to fund research for pediatric cancer.
Malcom said, “During my treatments, I was bombarded by awareness for other cancers, but I didn’t see any awareness for pediatric cancer. Then, I learned that the government gives less than three percent of federal cancer research dollars to research for pediatric cancer. I realized that someone really needed to make some noise about it. Someone needed to let the country know how many kids are diagnosed with cancer and that money for research needs to come from private sources. So, I decided to make some noise and incorporated a non-profit foundation for pediatric cancer research.”
A few events sponsored by the Make Some Noise foundation include cancer walks, concerts and, in this particular case, sporting events. Montclair State University’s sports teams have been “Playing for Charity” for four years now. Every year, each team hosts one charity game in which the money raised is donated to their team’s individual cause. The Red Hawks swimming and diving team partnered with the Make Some Noise charity to hold annual meets dedicated to research funding for childhood cancer.
The meet will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. Tickets booths open one hour before the meet starts. Remember, all proceeds are donated directly to the Make Some Noise foundation to assist in research funding for pediatric cancer.
