Come enjoy the Lincoln Center Local with MPL!
On Sunday, April 24 at 2 p.m., viewers will get the opportunity to go behind the scenes of the Lincoln Center Local, an all-Balanchine program that showcases the intensive training of ballet’s best future stars.
Taking place at the Montclair Public Library in the Main Library Auditorium, free screenings of Lincoln Center Local will be held for the first time ever for those to experience preparation for the end-of- year performances that will be taking place at the end of June. The free screenings will feature Serenade, excerpts from Coppélia, Swan Lake and Western Symphony. The library event is free and open to all ages.
Lincoln Center is the world’s largest performing arts center. Lincoln Center offers dozens of screenings to choose from and the Montclair Public Library is given the opportunity to choose from a large variety of performers to showcase at their event.
Lincoln Center Education is the global leader in arts education and is the cornerstone of the Lincoln Center. The series of events that are provided at the Montclair Public Library, including the one on April 24, is part of Lincoln Center Education’s mission which is “to bring high quality resources and programming options to communities beyond Lincoln Center’s campus in Manhattan.”
Chelsea Dodd, Information Services Supervisor at Montclair Public Library, says her favorite part of the Lincoln Center Local screenings is that each performance is different. “My favorite part of this screening is that it is more of a documentary, which allows attendees to go behind the scenes,” said Dodd.
The free screenings available at the Montclair Public Library are made possible through the support provided by the Oak Foundation. The Lincoln Center and Montclair Public Library also receive additional support by Booth Ferris Foundation and the Altman Foundation.
“I am registered for the event because not only do I love the Montclair Public Library, but I think it will be very interesting,” said Montclair resident Chelsea Bloomes. “My children are young and I want to expose them to this atmosphere and I think the [Montclair Public Library] does a great job of achieving that.”
After the screenings are over, a post screening discussion will be led by Francesca Nieves. Nieves, of Sharron Miller’s Academy of the Performing Arts, is a professional dancer, teacher and choreographer who is currently a freelancing dance teacher and coach.
