Growing unusual edibles with Rachel Weston!
Rachel Weston, a native of the Jersey Shore, is a food writer, chef and culinary instructor. As she is committed to assisting individuals in comprehending their food system, Weston will be at the Montclair Public Library on Saturday, June 25 at 11 a.m. to share her insight and provide feedback.
“Montclair has such a vibrant food scene. It has a terrific farmers market and a really diverse selection of restaurants. The restaurant Samba contributed a recipe to my book New Jersey Fresh: Four Seasons from Farm to Table. I love how they incorporate local produce into their Brazilian cuisine there,” said Weston.
She’s the the author of New Jersey Fresh: Four Season from Farm to Table and her great work has been featured in The Star Ledger, Inside Jersey magazine, The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, NJ.com, Chow.com, JerseyBites.com and a plethora of newspapers and websites.
“My program is going to focus on unusual fruits and vegetables to grow in the home garden. My selections are inspired by what I’ve seen being grown locally in the last few seasons by New Jersey farmers,” said Weston.
Weston has found out how to make seasonally inspired meals for families and friends to enjoy from foods that are produced locally. Get inspired and learn new resources for growing your own unusual edibles for the 2016 season that farmers use. Begin to expand your growing garden with ingredients such as grains and heirloom fruits, opening doors to many ethnic cuisines.
“Growing your own food can be one of the most rewarding and most healthy things you can do for yourself and your family. Shopping from a local farmers market is also a great way to get inspired by healthy fruits and vegetables. The closer you are to harvest, the more nutritious the food will be. It will also be more delicious because it is incredibly ripe and fresh. The more you enjoy eating healthy ingredients, you’ll find yourself turning to those things for a snack or in a meal,” said Weston.
Everyone who attends the Rachel Weston event at the Montclair Public Library will receive a 2016 seed catalog and the opportunity to take home a few of Rachel Weston’s favorite seeds to grow. She will be also book signing and chatting with those who are interested.
