Still Will Be Heard to amaze audiences.
Still Will Be Heard is an original musical theater piece to be performed at the Kasser Theater on the campus of Montclair State University that sets poetry to an eclectic blend of folk, rock, jazz and bluegrass music. Music for this show is by Liz Queler and Seth Farber, with the book by Queler and Edna St. Vincent Millay. Still Will Be Heard is directed by Mindy Cooper with set design by Erhard Rom, lighting by Aaron Copp, costumes by Debra Otte and projection design by S. Katy Tucker.
St. Vincent Millay is a poet, and Queler was using music to navigate a difficult time in her life. Queler and St. Vincent Millay met, and Queler and her partner, Farber, decided to put St. Vincent Millay’s poetry to music.
According to the Peak Performances website, “Still Will Be Heard is the culmination of that burst of inspiration and renewed creativity. This new music theatre piece features 21 of Millay’s poems set to Liz and Seth’s eclectic blend of folk, rock, jazz, and bluegrass music. The songs, interspersed with spoken words culled from the writings of both women, take us on a journey by turns playful, dark, fierce and beautiful.”
Tickets for Still Will Be Heard are available for $20 at the Kasser Theater Box office, or online at peakperfs.org. Montclair undergraduate students are permitted one free ticket with their student ID. Showtimes are June 6 and 13 at 7:30 p.m., June 7 and 14 at 8 p.m. and June 8 and 15 at 3 p.m.
Refreshments are available at the concession stand before the performance but no food or drink is permitted inside the theater at any time. For light foods and coffee, Cafe Diem is located in close proximity to the theater and connected to the library. For a full menu available 24/7, the Red Hawk Diner is located on the far end of campus.
The Kasser Theater is located towards the front of campus next to the Red Hawk Parking Deck. Parking is available in the Red Hawk Deck as well as the Transit Parking Deck across campus. Public transportation that runs directly in front of the Kasser Theater is also available.
