Sublime with Rome to rock the Wellmont.
California-based band Sublime with Rome is touring the country and is set to come to Montclair, N.J. at the Wellmont Theater on August 8. Many people may think the band name sounds familiar, and that’s because it has developed from the popular 90s band Sublime, with hits like “Santeria” and “What I Got.”
Sublime was considered a reggae, punk, alternative band in the 90s and became popular across the country after their self-titled third album. Front man Brad Nowell died of a heroin overdose just before the album went platinum five times. Remaining members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson continued by creating and releasing music videos including old footage of Nowell before moving on to new bands, both separately and together. In 2009, new lead singer, Rome Ramirez, was introduced and Sublime with Rome was officially formed.
Though the singer is new, fans can expect the same laid back and care free atmosphere that Sublime was always known for. Old favorites are performed as well as new songs from their 2011 debut album, Yours Truly.
You can get into that laid back and carefree feeling before the show with a number of restaurants in the area. The Wellmont Theater is located right on Bloomfield Ave and offers many options for food and drinks. Check out one of the local favorites, Cuban Pete’s, for the perfect outdoor island vibe with a BYO-alcohol policy and hugely talked about Sangria. Parking in the area can be tricky, so it’s highly encouraged to come early.
Tickets are available through Live Nation on their website, livenation.com, and start at $29. Information about the tour, band, merchandise and more can be found on Sublime with Rome’s website, which has been frequently updated, sublimewithrome.com.
Whether you’re an old fan nostalgic for a familiar sound or a new listener, you won’t want to miss this amazing experience!
