Kasser Theater Anniversary weekend.
This season marks the Kasser Theater’s 10th Anniversary, and the theater plans on celebrating this milestone this weekend with a variety of events, starting off on Thursday night.
Great Britten opens on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m., which will feature “the American premieres from the Richard Alston Dance Company set to the music of Benjamin Britten performed by Nicholas Phan, American Contemporary Music Ensemble and [Montclair State University’s] Vocal Accord, directed by Dr. Heather J. Buchanan of the John J. Cali School of Music,” according to a statement by Peak Performances.
They will also be offering free cupcakes and punch in the lobby during intermission to celebrate.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, a gala will also mark the occasion. The evening will contain a gala performance and dinner. Two works by British choreographer Richard Alston will have American premieres.
“The 500-seat theater opened in October 2004. It is the host of Peak Performances, founded in 2005, under the artistic leadership of Jedediah Wheeler. The theater was named to honor the late Alexander Kasser, a Montclair art-lover, native of Budapest who worked with Raoul Wallenberg to save thousands of Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary in 1944,” according to North Jersey.
Tickets are available online at peakperfs.org or at the Kasser Theater box office for varying prices, depending on the size of the group and the show. Visit montclairconnect.org/kasser-gala for more information.
Refreshments are available at the concession stand before the performance but no food or drink is permitted inside the theater at any time. For light foods and coffee, Cafe Diem is located in close proximity to the theater and connected to the library. For a full menu available 24/7, the Red Hawk Diner is located on the far end of campus.
Parking is available in the Red Hawk Deck as well as the Transit Parking Deck across campus. Public transportation that runs directly in front of the Kasser Theater is also available. If you are traveling in from the city, Peak Performances is now offering a Peak Bus. Peak Performances runs a charter bus service to and from Manhattan for all Saturday and Sunday performances, and tickets can be purchased along with your show tickets.
