MHS is now offering a scholarship in Clem Taylor’s memory.
Friends of the late Adrian “Clem” Taylor have come together to create an annual scholarship honoring the journalist’s legacy. The scholarship will be awarded each year to a deserving journalism student at Montclair High School, according to Baristanet.com.
Clem Taylor lived in Montclair and was an award-winning journalist, having won a Peabody Award and eight Emmy Awards during his highly successful career. Taylor spent nearly 20 years working for CBS News, including the last four years for 60 Minutes and he also worked for ABC and NPR.
A tribute and fundraising event will be held in honor of Clem Taylor at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center on the campus of Montclair State University on March 21, the one-year anniversary of Taylor’s passing at age 60 from pancreatic cancer.
According to the reports of his passing, Taylor died following a battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 60. Taylor recently won a Peabody and an Emmy for a May 2013 60 Minutes segment, “Joy in the Congo,” about the Kimbanguist Symphony Orchestra in war-torn Kinshasa in the Congo.
Clem Taylor died at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, close to his home in Montclair, N.J.

The Montclair Scholarship Fund (MSF) has been awarding scholarships to college bound Montclair High School seniors with financial need for nearly 60 years, according to their web page. Many MSF scholarship recipients come from low-income families and are the first in their family to attend college. Over the years, MSF has helped ease the college debt burden of many Montclair High School students, assisting them in attending colleges in New Jersey and around the country.
According to the site, “with your help, and the help of other donors like you, MSF can continue increasing the number and size of college scholarships we are able to award to hardworking and talented Montclair High School students. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law and 100 percent of your contribution received by MSF will be used exclusively to fund scholarships.”
