‘The Persians’ from Peak Performances

'The Persians' is an ancient Greek play that is being brought to life by Peak Performances on the campus of Montclair State University.

The Persians debuts at Fox Theater.

The Persians, an early Greek play, is making its way to Fox Theater on the campus of Montclair State University as part of the Peak Performances lineup. The Persians is by Aeschylus, translated by Robert Auletta and directed by Mercedes Murphy.

According to the Peak Performances website, “The Persians, the earliest Greek play to survive as a complete work, recounts how the news of an unexpected and crushing defeat of the Greek army reached the Persian imperial court. According to The Guardian, ‘The play’s tour de force [is a] vivid, fast-moving account of one of history’s great battles…Dense and muscular in its imagery, with an exotic queen, a portentous dream, a distant location and a sinister supernatural event …A troubling, masterful play [that] can also become a drama for our time.'”
