Spring Prints and Patterns

Spring brings new fashion trends.

This spring, it’s time to try something different. Obviously, floral prints never go out of style, and you’ve probably had the same blouses and pants hanging in your closet for years (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!). Fashionistas have grown perhaps too content with this trend, though. In reaction, designers steered away from floral patterns on the 2015 runway and focused on fresh looks. Here are the top five prints to seek out this season:

• Gingham – Gingham prints have been reinvented for the spring. In an array of colors and a larger print, this trend is now anything but traditional. Designers went the extra mile and debuted sheer gingham, colored in pastel blues and pinks, in addition to the expected black and white. The gingham pattern is gorgeous (and flattering) on coordinates, dresses and pants.

• Stripes – A benefit of strutting your stripes is their year-round wear-ability. For example, cuff the sleeves of that black and blue, long sleeved striped shirt you wore last fall and tuck it into a mini skirt for a spring look. Stripes have a nautical appeal in the spring and summer, so play it up with some anchor accessories, such as a pair of earrings or a colorful clutch. Stripes make for the ultimate prep.

• Polka Dots – Everyone loves polka dots! The vintage and playful pattern is perfect for that warm weather air and flirty first date. A midi skirt is a great way to show off a big pattern. If this trend seems to bold for you, layer a sheer blouse that features smaller dots with a cami. To add just a pop of polka dot, tie a spotted ribbon in your hair for a charming headpiece.

• Boxy Windowpane – The windowpane style is similar to gingham, but much larger, less checkered and more spread out. It is, of course, boxy, but it looks great printed on a skirt, top or pants. The pattern is typically offered in black and white, acting as a great contrast to the bright colors of spring. Try pairing the windowpane pattern with a hot pink or neon yellow bag, shoe or necklace for a wow factor.

• Archival Artwork – This spring, Lilly Pulitzer partnered with Target and released 15 archival artwork-inspired prints. This team-up introduces fashion bearing modern art, a style that only spring’s trendsetters will sport. But fear not, Pulitzer’s resort chic attire will still be at the forefront of this project. The collection will be released exclusively at Target stores and target.com on Sunday, April 19.
