As summer break approaches, along with it comes free time and great weather. Take advantage without breaking your bank with these three free summer activities to do right next door in New York City.
- Visit the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. The beautiful area that you may know from movies like Annie Hall and Moonstruck is known for being one of the most romantic spots in New York City. It stretches one-third of a mile long, overlooking the East River, and along the way offers breathtaking views of the Statue of Liberty, the Manhattan skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge. Lined with flower beds, trees, benches and playgrounds, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade is a favorite destination for all people, whether this includes tourists, joggers, families or lovers. - Go to a Free Concert. Myfreeconcert.com is a website that gives information about all kinds of bands and artists who are performing free concerts all over New York. They display listings in categories based on date (tonight, this week, this month) and genre (acoustic, alternative, classical, hip hop). - Explore the Brooklyn Flea Market. As described on their webpage, the Brooklyn Flea Market “has grown into one of New York City’s top attractions, operating flea markets every weekend of the year that feature hundreds of top vendors of furniture, vintage clothing, collectibles and antiques, as well as a tightly curated selection of jewelry, art and crafts by local artisans and designers, plus delicious fresh food.” The market takes place from April to November on the weekends – Saturdays in Fort Greene and Sundays in Williamsburg. In addition, the same organization also operates Smorgasburg, a giant all-food market that takes place Saturdays in Williamsburg and Sundays in Brooklyn Bridge Park. If you want to explore New York City even more but are still on a tight budget, you can find a whole list of free activities in the Big Apple at Nycgo.com. And once you’ve planned your no-cost activity, you can get there from Montclair through car, bus or train. If your going with your car, you’ll have to find a place to park, and can find a place easily by just searching “NYC parking” and finding the best deal in advance.
