Peter/Wendy on stage brings back so many memories.
Montclair State University presents “Peter/Wendy,” adapted and directed by Jeremy Bloom, in collaboration with the B.A. Theatre Studies Class of 2013. Inspired by J.M. Barrie’s original novels, Peter and Wendy, Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens and The Little White Bird, “Peter/Wendy” uses music to help explore the dark emotional underbelly of the seemingly familiar tale.
Exploring the concept of imagination and how children grow up, “Peter/Wendy” tells a relatable story that an audience of any age would be able to appreciate and enjoy. The production will run April 17, 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m., April 20 at 8 p.m. and April 21 at 2 p.m. All performances will take place in the L. Howard Fox Theater, located on the east side of campus by Life Hall.
“Peter/Wendy” tickets are being sold for $15, and can be purchased either at the Alexander Kasser Theater Box Office, or online at the Peak Performance website. One free ticket is available for any undergraduate MSU student, to be reserved at the Alexander Kasser Theater Box Office while in possession of their valid student I.D.
Fox Theater offers the real theater experience for audience members, while keeping an extremely close and connected intimate feel between the audience and the actors as the story plays out on the stage. A black box theater, this versatile space is perfect for the low technology signature stagings of flight that “Peter/Wendy” is often known for.
Recently renovated, Fox Theater includes new carpeting and seating, as well as state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems that will help to make this production truly unforgettable. With only 100 fixed and 80 moveable seats, the theater will surely fill up quickly, so it would be best to get tickets as soon as possible.
Parking is available most conveniently in Red Hawk Deck, by the main entrance on Normal Avenue, at an hourly rate. A fully-automated facility, you will receive a ticket when entering that can be brought to any of the Pay Stations on levels 2, 4 or 5 of the deck, and paid for with cash or credit card.
For a quick bite before or a drink to discuss the show over, you might want to consider stopping by Cafe Diem, a coffee shop right across from the theater and connected to Sprague Library, that offers a variety of freshly-brewed Starbucks coffees, breakfast items, gourmet sandwiches and salads.
If you’re looking for a full meal, try checking out the Red Hawk Diner, a popular on-campus restaurant that is open 24 hours-a-day. There is metered parking available in the lot by the diner, at a rate of 75 cents per half hour, for a maximum of three hours. These meters only accept cash.
Allow yourself to be whisked away by the familiar emotional childhood tale, escaping reality for the night for a well-priced priceless experience. Come out and escape with”Peter/Wendy.”
