Duprees brought the crowd to its feet.
Ice cream, zeppoles, sausage and peppers, trees and grass; all of these things very well describe the overall beauty of Brookdale Park in Bloomfield, N.J. But, this past weekend, the 1960’s doo-wop group the Duprees, clad in melon-colored blazers, were the stars of the park as they performed their own hits, along with some covers.
The Duprees proudly acknowledged the crowd of young children, teenagers, adults and senior citizens alike for coming out and spending summer the way they should: outdoors in the fresh air. It did not matter whether or not the crowd had even heard of the Duprees.
Almost everyone danced and sang along to the Duprees’ hits such as “Check Yourself,” “My Love” and “Have You Heard?” They also performed covers of Frank Sinatra’s “Beyond the Sea,” “Runaround Sue” by Dion and even “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz. Speaking of Sinatra, the Duprees informed everyone that on Dec. 12, 2015, he would have been 100 years old. They also played a song to acknowledge all Veterans past, present and future.
Next Friday night, the Shadows of the 60’s will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. in the park. The Shadows of the 60’s are a tribute group who pay homage to famous groups the Temptations, the Four Tops and the Supremes. The group performs hits from multiple decades, and they are sure to play something perfect for people of all ages.
