French Institute Alliance Française brings French to Montclair.
The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), New York’s acclaimed premiere destination for French language, offers French classes, workshops and events for all ages and levels in Montclair.
Whether you’re a student planning to study abroad in France, interested in learning the beautiful language, or looking to brush up on your old French speaking skills, FIAF classes in Montclair located on North Willow Street are available to the community.
Marie-Catherine Glaser, Director of the French Institute Alliance Française of Montclair, has led educational programs at the Embassy of France in Washington D.C. for the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia from 2009 to 2013. She has also previously worked in the Czech Republic, Russia, China and Latvia where she held positions in education and cultural organizations, including Centre culturel francaise and the Alliance Française.
All classes are taught by highly trained native speakers of French who come from all over the world and are fully certified to teach French as a foreign language. All classes are offered to people of all different ages and levels. Whether you’re a beginner, five years old, 35 years old or advanced, there is a class available for you.
To ensure that you get started at the right level, the French Institute Alliance Française offers a free Placement Test both online and paper. After completing the Placement Test, those interested are suggested to speak with a teacher. The short conversation in French will help the teachers assess your speaking skills and place you in the right level. The chat can take place over the phone or in person. After you have completed the Placement Test and have spoke with a certified French teacher at the institute, it’s time to register for classes.
Classes are held throughout the seasons of fall, winter and spring. The Winter 2016 session is beginning Jan. 11 and will end on March 28. If you are interested in registering for the Spring 2016 session, registration opens Feb. 29 and the FIAF will be having early bird savings for adults until March 21. The 11 week session for adults and children will begin on April 4 and end on June 20.
“For someone who only knows how to say ‘hello’ in French, this is a program I would definitely be interested in,” said student Nick Marek. “My sister is minoring in French at her college and I think it would be really fun if we had the chance to speak it together and eventually visit the country together.”
If you are interested in learning the French language or interested in the institute, you are encouraged to visit the French Institute Alliance Française Manhattan location on any Friday at 1–5:30 p.m. or call 646-388-6612 to schedule an appointment. If that option is unavailable for you and you’re in Montclair, call 973-783-0507 to schedule an in-person evaluation. If you are interested in different times or classes that are currently offered, please send your requests to fiafnj@fiaf.org.
