Gin Blossoms Set to Perform

The Gin Blossoms are an American rock band who got started in the music industry in the late 1980’s. Since then, they’ve created some big hits and have toured worldwide. They’re known for their songs “Hey Jealousy” and “Found Out About You” which both reached Billboard Hot 100 at No. 25, “Follow You Down” that climbed to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, “Til I Hear It From You” and ”As Long As It Matters.”

The band released their first ever full length album in 1989, Dusted, followed by their first major studio albums New Miserable Experience in 1992 and Congratulations, I’m Sorry in 1996. The band broke up in 1997 and reunited in 2002 releasing their next two albums Major Lodge Victory in 2006 and No Chocolate Cake in 2010.

The Gin Blossoms have been through their fair share of members including Doug Hopkins, Richard Taylor, Chris McCann, Steven Severson, Dan Henzerling, Phillip “Phil” Rhodes, Phil Leavitt, Gary Smith, Scott Kusmirek and John Richardson. Doug Hopkins, who was the band’s lead guitarist and songwriter, is especially known for co-founding the Gin Blossoms. The band is currently made up of lead vocalist Robin Wilson, bass guitarist Bill Leen, rhythm and lead guitarists Jesse Valenzuela and Scott “Scotty” Johnson and drummer Scott Hessel.

This Tempe, Ariz. native band has been seen performing at the 1989 MTV’s New Music Awards in New York City and made appearances on late night television including David Letterman, Jay Leno, Arsenio Hall, Saturday Night Live and more. They’ve been recognized by the Phoenix New Times as the cities “Best Rock Band” as well as College Music Journal’s “Best Unsigned Band in America.” They have also performed across the world including a five city tour of Iraq in 2010 and the 31-day nationwide Summerland Tour in 2012.

The band is extending their appreciation and their talent to the Wellmont Theater, located at 5 Seymour Street in Montclair. The event will take place on Feb. 12. at 8 p.m. Tickets can be found at thewellmonttheater.com. Prices range from about $27.50 to $65.
