Met Museum Gala Inspired Prom Styles

Prom dresses came to life at the Met Museum's annual Gala, with fashions that all Montclair fashionistas should take note of.

Prom fashion styles right from the Met Museum Gala.

The Metropolitan Museum‘s annual Costume Institute Gala is the most anticipated fashion event of the year and all the A-List celebrities put on their most elegant looks for the night. Check out some of the best celebrity looks for ideas on how to make your own prom night up-to-date with the latest fashion.

The annual charity event is hosted by American Vogue editor, Anna Wintour, and this year’s theme was Charles James: Beyond Fashion. Held at the Met Museum of Art on Monday night, the event kicked off the Met Museum of Art’s yearly Costume Institute exhibit, which will exhibit James’ work beginning May 8. Honoring James, who was known for his extravagant architectural ball gowns, celebrities were highly expected to show up in dramatic and over-the-top gowns – and they did not disappoint.

Starting straight from the top was Sarah Jessica Parker who was center of attention and embodied the theme of the night. Wearing Oscar de la Renta, SJP channeled her inner Carrie Bradshaw and stunned in her gown that featured a black bodice and voluminous white skirt with Oscar de la Renta’s name in scarlet embroidery thread across the back, which was indeed her idea. She paired her look with elbow-length white gloves and a super major updo.

Another star wearing Oscar de la Renta was Taylor Swift. Swift has been really hitting the mark with her fashion choices lately and it’s always exciting to see what she is going to do next. Always classy and sophisticated, she did not disappoint in a floor length blush satin-faced organza gown with matte gold sequins, pearl beads, silver-lined seed beads, rose gold metallic threadwork leaves and organza petal embroidery. Detailed is an understatement, but she wore the gown incredibly and the low-cut back was so feminine and classy; it was a real favorite of the night.

Blowing up the Instagram world with her photos, Kim Kardashian kept followers updated on her night at the gala. With Kanye West on her arm, it was hard to tell whether Kardashian’s fashion sense had faded a bit since last year’s horrible floral gown with attached gloves incident, but she proved us wrong this year showing up to the red carpet in full glam. Kardashian wore a Lanvin custom two-tone black and petrol blue draped strapless gown. With the gown’s slit to the hip, Kardashian was classy and elegant and earned total redemption from last year.

Also, Kardashian was not the only Keeping Up With the Kardashians star on the red carpet that night. Little Kendall Jenner made an appearance in a mermaid style light pink gown by Top Shop. The two also posed for a photo outside the museum in front of a massive pile of red roses where Kim captioned that she was so proud of her model baby sister.

Probably one of the more favorable looks of the night at the Met Museum was the always-stunning Blake Lively. Lively can never seem to do wrong when it comes to red carpet events and with husband, Ryan Reynolds, by her side, the two looked like a golden couple. Channeling old Hollywood, Lively wore a sequined nude dress paired with perfectly tousled waves and Reynolds looked very handsome in his velvet tux with a bow tie. The two looked like the perfect couple topping many best-dressed lists and well, look at them, how could they not?

Lively and Reynolds were not the only couples that dazzled on the Met Museum red carpet. I do not want to fail to mention other couples who caught everyone’s eyes. Beyonce and Jay-Z, who being the biggest power couple alone is an achievement, but Beyonce and Jay-Z turned heads as they held hands making their entrance. Another power couple, being a fashion icon, was David and Victoria Beckham. Always so elegant and perfect, the two never disappoint. Victoria wore one of her own gowns from her upcoming collections and exemplifies that less is always more. Other couples such as Gisele Bunchden and Tom Brady, A$AP Rocky and Chanel Iman and Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone all made the best-dressed couples lists as well.

Lastly, and my personal favorite of the night, was Cara Delevingne. The 21-year-old it-girl killed it at the Met Museum in Stella McCartney. Totally going against the ball gown theme, Delevingne wore white trousers and a black deep cut crop top. Paired with her hair curled and braided to the side with smokey sultry eyes the entire look was so edgy and fierce, but classy at the same time. Delevingne is always my favorite to watch out for and she loves to have fun and she showed that on the red carpet that night.

Being such a prestigious night in fashion at the Met Museum, a lot of celebrities really hit the mark this year. From Kim redeeming herself, to Blake Lively’s old Hollywood glam look, to Cara’s surprising and fierce black and white outfit, celebrities delivered all the high expectations that were anticipated. It’s all over for this year and we’ll just have to see what next year will bring at the Met Museum Gala.
