Montclair Art Walk

The Montclair Art Walk returned for a night full of fun and culture. Jeff Beck, owner of East Side Mags was extremely pleased with the results.

Community staple, the Montclair Art Walk.

The Montclair Art Walk was held on Friday, Oct. 16 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and included 16 different exhibits, starting from the Montclair Art Museum on 3 South Mountain Avenue and ending at Heratij, a photography exhibit at 513 Bloomfield Avenue. The event, titled A Little Night Art, was self- guided, and attendees were able to follow a map that brought them through the streets of Montclair where they were able to stop at different stores and displays to view some amazing art.

The Montclair Art Museum, the first stop on the map, offered guided tours of its current exhibition, “Work and Leisure in American Art: Selected Works from the Collection.” Guests were then able to begin their independent journeys of the 16 exhibits throughout Downtown Montclair.

East Side Mags is a Montclair founded comic book store that participated in the Art Walk this year. Located on 7 South Fullerton Avenue, they frequently interact with the community through publicly-open movie nights where the only cost of admission is a can of food to be donated to local food pantries.

Jeff Beck, the owner of East Side Mags, was extremely pleased with the store’s participation in this year’s Art Walk. “The turnout was amazing,” said Beck. “We had a ton of people come through to check out the various artists and their works.”

He also mentioned that some of the most popular works were by artists such as Leftover Pieces, who “take old comics and turn them into coasters and light switch covers,” and Christopher Wolf, who exhibited his artwork of “various Teen Titan GO! Characters, including but not limited to Raven, Cyborg and Robin.” For information on more events hosted by East Side Mags, including a Graphix 10th anniversary event and Dave Roman signing, you can check out their webpage at eastsidemags.com.

The Montclair Art Walk was not only a great display of amazing artwork by local and established artists, but it offered a fun and eye-opening event for the whole community to participate in. It’s really a win-win for everybody and a lovely experience, so make sure to mark your calendars for the next event!
