Montclair Bread Company has recently seen expansion with a new commissary on Label Street.
Montclair Bread Company has recently opened a commissary on Label Street that will serve as a new wholesale bakery and education center. The new factory will double the baking capacity that Montclair Bread Company already produces. There, the doughnuts, breads, croissants and muffins will be baked for Montclair Bread Company. It will also serve as a new place for classes, culinary events, and community gatherings.
Montclair Bread Company is a family-owned bread bakery that is famously known for their doughnuts. The company and its locations are run by Rachel Crampsey, a Cooking Channel Donut Showdown Champion. Although Montclair Bread Company will be opening a new location on Label Street, their baked good will continue to be available at the original location on Walnut Street.
“The addition of the new building gives Montclair Bread Co. the opportunity to respond to our customer’s demands,” said owner, Rachel Crampsey. “We were completely maxed out in our space on Walnut Street and we were often turning people away. After one too many sad, doughnutless faces, I put the wheels in motion to move our baking operation to a larger space. Our new baking facility will not only serve as a means to produce breads and treats for our two retail locations, it will also be an educational facility where we include the community in our process of transforming a grain to a loaf. Our goal is to bring other local chefs, farmers and culinary educators together within the community.”
Not only that, but the company recently opened a new retail outlet at the Isabel Rose Cafe in the Montclair Public Library located on South Fullerton Avenue. At the library location, mini-doughnuts, croissants, muffins and other treats will be available at the cafe for kids. Also, there is a new espresso bar, where you can purchase a cup of Portland-based Stumptown Coffee Roasters, whose products are featured exclusively by the company.
“I think that the opening of the new place on Label Street will be great for not just the company, but the community. My family loves Montclair Bread Company and their doughnuts, and I can’t imagine who doesn’t! We can’t wait for what’s to come,” said local resident and Montclair Bread Company fanatic, Jessica Bledsoe.
Montclair Bread Company has proved to be more than just their delicious treats and coffee, they also hold events throughout the community. Crampsey, an extremely busy woman who manages to own a business and be a wife and mother to three children, somehow has the time to also be an entrepreneur while training for the New York City Marathon. How does she do it?
Crampsey said she is “fueled by doughnuts,” which is also her motto. Her motto has spread across the bakery and now Montclair Bread Company holds a 5k called the “5K Doughnut Run.” This year’s doughnut run is the second annual in the company’s history and Crampsey is elated that this year it is sold out! The event, held on Dec. 12, will help raise money that will benefit the Human Needs Food Pantry of Montclair. At the event, Crampsey will officially launch the “Fueled by Doughnuts” Running Club to encourage beginners and build a community for runners of all levels.
