The Montclair Jazz Festival is back and better than ever, for its 10th year in a row! The event has consistently served as a town favorite and is celebrating this milestone in style. This year’s festival launched on July 26th with a kickoff dance party, with music provided by DJ Brother Mister, (usually known as Christian McBride, the festival’s co-founder and curator, and legendary jazz bassist.
To properly commemorate the Montclair Jazz Festival’s ten-year run, music will be running through town for two full weeks, until August 10th! The festival’s schedule in its entirety can be viewed here. Jazz listeners can catch up to 30 concerts at venues throughout Montclair, leading up to the festival’s free Grand Finale in Nishaune Park on Saturday, August 10th. The nine-hour event (running from noon to 9 PM) will feature performances by the talented Jazz House Kids groups and instructors, with Bettye LaVette, Eddie Palmieri, and the Christian McBride Quartet headlining the main stage.
Jazz House Kids has become an integral part of the New Jersey music community, welcoming and training 50,000 kids since its inception, 16 years ago. Jazz House Kids was founded by formidable jazz vocalist, and Montclair resident, Melissa Walker (the organization’s CEO), as an international music education program. Walker, along with her husband, Christian McBride, founded the award-winning Jazz Festival, which attracts over 15,000 people to Montclair every summer.
The 10th Annual Montclair Jazz Festival will continue providing the town’s soundtrack until August 10th!
