Over one million people in New Jersey, including one in six children, are food insecure. Through the wholesome hearts of companies such as Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty and Move For Hunger, they continue to help the nearly 50 million Americans struggling to find their next meal. It is important to remember the lack of reliable access to a sufficient quantity of nutritious and affordable food for certain individuals.
Move for Hunger is a non-profit organization that focuses on fighting hunger and reducing food waste. They work with companies across North America to collect unopened, non-perishable food from people who are relocating and deliver it to local food banks. Currently, their network has collected over 6.9 million pounds of food.
“In Essex County alone there are nearly 147,000 individuals who are unsure of when they will have their next meal. Food banks and pantries help provide our neighbors with assistance to help them through tough times. This food drive is so important because the food banks rely on donations to help keep their shelves stocked,” said Dan Beam, Communications Manager of Move for Hunger.
Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty is an integral part of the New Jersey real estate landscape, with a dedicated team of 6,000 licensed professionals and staff working out of 143 offices throughout Northern and Central New Jersey. They are committed to skillfully serving all of their clients and community, in cultivating a culture of ethics, collegiality, community and diversity. As they deliver exceptional results within the industry as a top-ranked, fully integrated New Jersey real estate services firm, it’s no surprise that they participate in Move for Hunger.
After a phenomenal result from last year’s food collection of nearly 50,000 pounds, Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty has decided to partner up with Move for Hunger again, to host a food drive from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30. Non-perishable food items will be collected at each of the 13 Prominent Properties locations in northern New Jersey. Montclair’s Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty is located on 32 Valley Road and can be contacted at 973-783-6900.
“During last year’s food drive, the Montclair office collected 1,200 lbs of food for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. That’s the equivalent of 1,000 meals,” said Beam.
The people of Montclair can continue to help out by dropping off non-perishable food items at the office in Montclair. Peanut butter and canned tuna are always highly-requested by food banks, so we’d encourage donating those items if possible. Any donation will help, though! Donations will be picked-up and delivered by Ridgewood Moving Services to the Center for Food Action in Ridgewood. All Season Movers, Inc. and Main Street Movers will pick-up and deliver donations to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside.
“I have participated and it’s always a gratifying feeling to know you’ve been able to help someone,” said Beam.
