November is more than just colorful leaves and Thanksgiving to the Montclair Public Library; it’s also National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. Every Friday of the month the library will be hosting different writing events to encourage novelists of all ages to continue their passion. They are held at the Main Library Conference Room located at 50 South Fullerton Avenue, and are from around 2 to 6 p.m.

This is the third year in a row the public library is participating in the nationwide project, and this year they have partnered with The Write Group and Watchung Booksellers. According to the Montclair Public Library website, “Each Friday, writers are encouraged to visit the drop-in space to work on their [novel] drafts in a supportive environment. The library will also host speakers and programs to assist and inspire authors to get writing.”

The schedule for the month is as follows:

You can register for the events by going to montclairlibrary.org; by participating and contributing to the collaborative novel you will be entered to win a $50 gift card to Watchung Booksellers. For more information, call (973) 744-0500 ext. 2235.

Chelsea Dodd, the library’s Information Services Supervisor, hosted the first event titled Novel Research Techniques. “It isn’t just for young writers, but for writers of any age,” said Dodd. “We had a packed conference room for our first NaNoWriMo talk and Come Write-In last Friday. We also had nearly 40 people attend the local author panel last Saturday.”

She also pointed out that the event is held on a national level, with many different communities participating all over America. Noticing the large writing community here in Montclair, it was decided to bring the event to their own town. It’s a great way for the community to come together and actively support writers to achieve their goals.

National Novel Writing Month has been a huge success so far, so if you’re interested sign up now and don’t miss any of the upcoming events!
