The Persians debuts at Fox Theater.
The Persians, an early Greek play, is making its way to Fox Theater on the campus of Montclair State University as part of the Peak Performances lineup. The Persians is by Aeschylus, translated by Robert Auletta and directed by Mercedes Murphy.
According to the Peak Performances website, “The Persians, the earliest Greek play to survive as a complete work, recounts how the news of an unexpected and crushing defeat of the Greek army reached the Persian imperial court. According to The Guardian, ‘The play’s tour de force [is a] vivid, fast-moving account of one of history’s great battles…Dense and muscular in its imagery, with an exotic queen, a portentous dream, a distant location and a sinister supernatural event …A troubling, masterful play [that] can also become a drama for our time.'”
The show will be performed on March 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m., March 28 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., with a final showing on March 29 at 2 p.m. The Fox Theater I’d located next to Memorial Auditorium and across from the Sprague Library on the campus of Montclair State University.
Food options are available on campus as well at the Red Hawk Diner that is open all night. It is located on the far side of the campus.
