Robyn Orlin premiers show at Kasser Theater.
At the same time we were pointing a finger at you, we realized we were pointing three at ourselves… comes to Kasser Theater, performed by Robyn Orlin and Compagnie Jant-Bi, and will open on Jan. 24.
The show is by Robyn Orlin and will be performed by the Dancers of Compagnie Jant-Bi with sssistant choreography by Shush Ténin, lighting by Laïs Foulc, video by Aldo Lee, costumes by Birgit Neppl and scenography by Robyn Orlin. The show is in collaboration with Maciej Fiszer.
According to the Peak Performances website, “Provocative South African choreographer Robyn Orlin returns to Peak Performances after the success of 2011’s exuberant Walking next to our shoes… For her latest work, she joins forces with Germaine Acogny’s famed Compagnie Jant-Bi, a touchstone of new and traditional African dance in Dakar, to investigate the charged and often taboo issue of the human body itself. Questioning standards of ugliness and beauty, illness and health, Orlin places the body itself at the heart of the debate, revealing the range of pressures to which it is subjected, especially in the African context.”
The show is 70 minutes with no intermission. At the same time will be performed on Jan. 24 at 8 p.m., Jan. 25 at 3 p.m., Jan. 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. and a final performance on Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available online at peakperfs.org or at the Kasser Theater box office for $20. Undergraduate students at Montclair State also receive one free ticket to the show with a valid student I.D.
Refreshments are available at the concession stand before the performance but no food or drink is permitted inside the theater at any time. For light foods and coffee, Cafe Diem is located in close proximity to the theater and connected to the library. For a full menu available 24/7, the Red Hawk Diner is located on the far end of campus.
