Kasser Theater hosts works of Caroline Shaw’s ‘Roomful of Teeth.’
Kicking off the season in the beginning of February are the works of Caroline Shaw, Gavin Bryars and Henry Purcell, the Roomful of Teeth.
According to the Peak Performances website, “Ask Caroline Shaw — composer, violinist, vocalist and now youngest-ever recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music — to program a concert for the two ensembles with whom she performs, and what do you get? An incredible evening of music that celebrates the works of three breathtakingly original composers, including Shaw’s own Partita for 8 Voices, declared a ‘dazzling, emotionally generous take on a Baroque dance suite’ by The New York Times; the world premiere of a new version of her multimedia tour de force, Ritornello, featuring elements of American hymnody and Baroque music; Gavin Bryars’ heartrending Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet; and the intense, introspective glory of Henry Purcell’s fantasias.”
The show is 105 minutes with one intermission. Roomful of Teeth will be performed on Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available online at peakperfs.org or at the Kasser Theater box office for $20. Undergraduate students at Montclair State also receive one free ticket to the show with a valid student I.D.
Refreshments are available at the concession stand before the performance but no food or drink is permitted inside the theater at any time. For light foods and coffee, Cafe Diem is located in close proximity to the theater and connected to the library. For a full menu available 24/7, the Red Hawk Diner is located on the far end of campus.
Parking is available in the Red Hawk Deck as well as the Transit Parking Deck across campus. Public transportation that runs directly in front of the Kasser Theater is also available. If you are traveling in from the city, Peak Performances is now offering a Peak Bus. Peak Performances runs a charter bus service to and from Manhattan for all Saturday and Sunday performances, and tickets can be purchased along with your show tickets.
