The Royal Baby is Born!

The countdown to the birth of the Royal Baby ended on Saturday, May 2 as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge William and Kate welcomed their second child, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Their new baby girl was born on Saturday at 8:34 a.m. weighing 8lbs 3oz. The name Diana comes from Prince William’s late mother, the famously missed Princess Diana.

Their first son, Prince George, now two years old, waved to anxiously waiting crowd before meeting his new sister. After the birth, Prince William and Kate introduced their daughter to the crowds waiting outside the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington before heading back to Kensington Palace. Prince William strapped his newborn into a car seat inside his Range Rover and off they went to bring Princess Charlotte back to the palace. However, that is not where they will stay put, as they are now resting at their “country retreat,” which is where they are expected to spend most of their summer. The beautiful country castle is located on the Queen’s Sandringham estate, in Norfolk.

To the Queen, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge is the fifth of her great-grandchildren to be born. The great-grandmother welcomed the new royal family member at Kensington Palace just hours after she was born into the world.

The Duchesses parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, are visiting newborn Princess Charlotte and staying for a few days to assist their royal daughter Kate and son-in-law Prince William in caring for the children. Kate’s sister Pippa also arrived on Sunday, just a day after Kate gave birth, as did Princess Charlotte’s grandparents the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

So, where does Princess Charlotte land in the running to claim the royal throne? Well firstly, she bumps her father’s brother, Prince Harry, down a spot, landing her at number four. And should her big brother, Prince George, opt out of having kids, well she just may wind up wearing the sought after crown. If her parents have another son, which is likely, that will not affect Princess Charlotte’s place in the running, though it would have in the past. Thanks to the Succession to the Crown Act, gender equality has been written into law, thus princes are not superior to their sisters anymore.

As for the fashion – a big deal in the media regarding the Royal Family – the Duchess wore a lovely yellow floral dress and curled her brown locks to present Princess Charlotte to the world. The Duke wore a royal (no pun intended) blue sweater with a white collared shirt beneath, nearly matching his son, Prince George. The baby is said to have worn a “soft woolen shawl from G.H. Hurt & Son,” which is located in Nottingham.
