‘Swimming With My Mother’

'Swimming With My Mother,' a heartfelt tale about a boy and his mother, is sure to make memories this Mother's Day on the campus of Montclair State University.

Swimming With My Mother makes a splash at the Kasser Theater.

Coming next to the beautiful Kasser Theater on the campus of Montclair State University is Swimming With My Mother, a short dance film written and choreographed by David Bolger, directed by Conor Hogan and produced by Wildfire Films.

According to the Peak Performances website, peakperfs.org, Swimming With My Mother is “a heartfelt journey for mothers and children of all ages, [which] tells the story of a boy who learns life-long lessons from his mother, a swimming coach. Life passes in laps, things change and the boy teaches his mother to dance.” The performance is set to the tunes of Nat King Cole, which perfectly depicts the climaxes and dips in the relationships between the boy and his mother.

This performance comes just in time for Mother’s Day; ironically, the show will be performed by acclaimed Irish choreographer David Bolger and his own mother Madge. This award-winning production also includes a screening of Wildfire films’ Deep End Dance, starring both of the Bolgers.

Tickets for Swimming With My Mother are available for $20 at the Kasser Theater Box office, or online at peakperfs.org. Montclair undergraduate students are permitted one free ticket with their student ID. Showtimes are May 10 at 8 p.m. and May 11 at 3 p.m.

Refreshments are available at the concession stand before the performance but no food or drink is permitted inside the theater at any time. For light foods and coffee, Cafe Diem is located in close proximity to the theater and connected to the library. For a full menu available 24/7, the Red Hawk Diner is located on the far end of campus.

The Kasser Theater is located towards the front of campus next to the Red Hawk Parking Deck. Parking is available in the Red Hawk Deck as well as the Transit Parking Deck across campus. Public transportation that runs directly in front of the Kasser Theater is also available.
