Tom Hall named executive director.
The Montclair Film Festival has announced a new executive director, Tom Hall. Previous festival directors, Thom Powers and Raphaela Neihausen, have stepped down from their roles in order to devote more time to their other responsibilities. However, Powers and Neihausen will continue to assist in other aspects of the festival.
Tom Hall has experience in the film festival field, serving as the director of the Sarasota Film Festival from 2004-2014. He has also worked with the Nantucket Film Festival in Massachusetts and newportFILM in Rhode Island, as well as broadcast experience working with both Bravo and the Independent Film Chanel.
According to a press release by the Montclair Film Festival, Tom Hall is “also one of the founding Executive Committee members of the Film Festival Forum, a non-profit program of the Independent Feature Project (IFP), and is a founding nominating member of the Cinema Eye Honors Documentary Film Awards.” Additionally, it was announced in January 2010 that Hall was one of “Spring Board Media’s 20 under 40 in Film.”
Aside from his experience with film festivals and projects, Tom Hall has also experienced directing films. Hall directed short films for Bob Mould’s Carnival of Light and Sound Tour. According to the press release, he was also “an inaugural member of the indieWIRE blogging community with his blog The Back Row Manifesto, which is now a standalone website, as well as a contributor to Hammer To Nail and Filmmaker Magazine.”
Tom Hall will now be responsible for not only assisting with the annual spring film festival, but also managing Montclair Film Festival’s year-round programs. Such events include the fifth annual Summer Series, a list of movies shown and music performed live throughout the summer. The next movie is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, which will be shown at the Montclair Public Library on Thursday, Aug. 7 for free.
