Front and center on the Bloomfield and South Fullerton intersection of Montclair Center, The Pretty Kitty waxing salon brings a new, less-painful methodology to Brazilian waxing in the Montclair area. Located at 5 South Fullerton Ave. in Montclair, The Pretty Kitty provides waxing services for both men and women including facial waxing, leg waxing and, its specialty, Brazilian waxing.
Rather than using regular hard wax waxing techniques, the specifically trained estheticians at The Pretty Kitty use soft wax, which is known to hurt less and be an overall better experience to the client involved.
“Each esthetician has to go to school to become one before they work here, but then they have to go through special training through the company,” said Tamica Penn, 24, a front desk receptionist at The Pretty Kitty. “A 10 step procedure to use our special waxing process.”
As the heat of soft wax opens up a client’s pores and hair follicles, the technique allows for the wax to grab the full hairs, even what’s under the skin’s surface, exfoliating the skin. Waxing is more expensive than other hair removal options like shaving, but leaves the waxed area hair free for up to four to eight weeks.
The Montclair branch of The Pretty Kitty has been opened for just under four years, but the company has three locations in New Jersey and 20 locations worldwide.
Waxing is the preferable method for a lot of men and women, but there are some conditions and precursors that make people unable to be waxed. Taking blood-thinning medications, drugs for autoimmune diseases or having severe varicose veins are some of the things that can get you turned away at the waxing table. Others include having had recent skin laser treatments, being sunburned or having blistery, sensitive skin.
