Fun with Turtle Back Zoo.
Turtle Back Zoo is the perfect spot for an easy and fun filled day out; it’s simple to get to, parking is a breeze and the animals are great. After what has felt like the longest and coldest winter, there is no better feeling then getting outside for a breath of fresh air and feeling the sun on your back. Turtle Back Zoo is just the place for just that.
Turtle Back is voted the number one zoo in New Jersey, and for good reasons. The list of animals seems somewhat endless: bears, bison, leopards, llamas, sea lions and penguins, just to name a few. They also have zip lining, rope courses, pony rides, a carousel, a touch tank, an amphitheater and a mile long train ride that is included with admission.
Recently, Turtle Back Zoo became the perfect unique venue for all types of events and parties. Their reptile house can hold 100 people and is surrounded by black dragons and pythons! You can also rent the carousel plaza for what is sure to be an unforgettable night. Almost every day there is something exciting going on at the zoo so be sure to check out their events section on their website, www.turtlebackzoo.com.
I visited the zoo with my husband, son and a few of our friends and I am already planning my next visit. Even though the place was packed, the exhibits are so large and the zoo is perfectly spaced out that it did not feel as crowded as it was. Everywhere you turned there were smiling faces and kids laughing. My son was hysterical watching the little prairie dogs pop up and then disappear again; inside the touch tank some of the older kids were feeding and petting stingrays and the kids on the pony rides were waving to the crowd as though they were their fans!
The staff at the zoo was extremely helpful and overwhelmingly knowledgeable. At every exhibit there was a staff member telling all sorts of interesting and education facts about the animals. You are sure to see some of the animals eating or even getting bath by the staff as well. They are also very excited to announce their new giraffe exhibit coming in October!
Starting this summer the zoo will be open until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays for “Family Fun Night.” The night includes live entertainment, a special dinner menu at the Zoo Café and animals! Turtle Back Zoo is located at 560 North Field Avenue in West Orange and is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.
