The Montclair Township Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities will host “Transition Points,” a seminar on issues facing the special needs community. The seminar will be held Friday, June 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Montclair Public Library, which is located at 50 South Fullerton Avenue in Montclair.

According to the event announcement, “All families are challenged with the day-to-day matters of schooling, healthcare and housing. Making the transition into adult life is difficult for everyone. Financial, emotional, community and family factors have to be considered. For households with special needs members, this period can be even more difficult. Significant governmental and legal changes are occurring that spur the need for an update. Our ‘Transition Points’ program will provide attendees with an opportunity to hear from experts who assist in negotiating through these transitions. The program will offer an overview of factors to consider, how one might start addressing them and learn about resources available that will help through a transition period. A question and answer session will follow.”

The moderator of this seminar will be Hazeline Pilgrim, Executive Director of Family Support Organization of Essex County. The panel will also feature Rebekkah Novemsky, Co-Chair Regional Family Support Council #4: A Family Perspective on Challenges and Strategies in Transition; Kate Stanton-Paul and Leslie Wallace, Montclair High School Transition Coordinators: Transition Planning and Community Based Instruction and Alex M. Hilsen, Esq. of Sussan Greenwald & Wexler: Special Needs Trusts, Guardianship and Estate Planning.

Some of the resources and representatives that will be available at this event are: ARC of Essex, Melissa Soules; Family Support Center of NJ, Hazeline Pilgrim; NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities/ Regional Family Support Council, Rebekah Novemsky; NJ All People are Equal; NJ Personal Assistance Services Program, Essex County; Division of Disability Services, James Davis and the Traumatic Brain Injury Association of NJ.
