Jasmin Vardimon wows the crowd at MSU.
When it comes to eye-popping dance theater pieces, United Kingdom native Jasmin Vardimon, is no stranger. Vardimon’s company, dually titled Jasmin Vardimon Company, is known for its captivating dance theater pieces.
The Jasmin Vardimon Company has announced this production will contain a number of exciting features. The features include fireflies, “body” surfing, lazer lizards, shadow puppets, shadow monsters,Led Zeppelin, rinse cycles, balloons and a swan with an altitude problem. Throughout the years, the company has established a trademark for its use of physicality, brutally visceral characterizations, rich visuals, the fuse of animation with live action and inventive set designs.
The Jasmin Vardimon Company is a staple within the British dance theatre scene. The company has sold-out performances across the UK and internationally at high profile theatres throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the USA. The company’s works include 7734, Yesterday, Justitia, Park and Lullaby. Lullaby, one of the company’s popular shows, gained Vardimon selection for the BBC Documentary Dance Film Academy in 2005, which featured the development of a film version of the piece.
Jasmin Vardimon, artistic director of the company, was born and raised in central Israel where she joined the Kibbutz Dance Company. After moving to London in 1997, she founded the Jasmin Vardimon Company, formerly titled Zbang.
Jasmin Vardimon has distinguished herself amongst other artistic directors by offering her audience a unique choreographic voice. Curator Catherine Wood stated, “Jasmin Vardimon brings a unique combination of sculpture, theatre and dance to her choreography.” Vardimon’s extensive work has not gone unnoticed. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the London Arts Board New Choreographers Award, which she received in 1998, and the Jerwood Choreography Award, which she received in 2000.
This piece is said to explore the notions of what keeps our imaginations free. With such a large amount of offerings from the company, the show is guaranteed to have a little something to keep viewers of all ages engaged. The show will start at 7:30 p.m. on April 18-19 and at 8 p.m for the shows on April 20-21.
