Montclair High School alumnus Joe Walsh.
Montclair was and presently is home to some of the world’s most famous people. The reason for this might be because of the close proximity to New York city, or the fact that Montclair is a very historical and wealthy town. It has housed numerous celebrities, such as news anchors like the very funny but influential Stephen Colbert; even the second man to ever walk on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, comes from Montclair originally.
Additionally, the world famous 70’s rock band, The Eagles, has its ties to the Montclair community. The Eagles lead guitarist Joe Walsh, (who is also a rock and roll hall of famer) was raised in Montclair and is a Montclair High School alumnus. To get back to his roots, he will be doing a benefit concert for the school’s 100th anniversary. Walsh will be there for two days and will also visit students of the school.
The Joe Walsh event will be on Oct. 3, with tickets going on sale in September. You can see more about the sales of the tickest at the Montclair Fund For Educational Excellence website at mfee.org/MFEEEvents.html. Tickets will be limited, since the benefit will be held in the school’s auditorium and there will be limited space. Also, according to the funds page, the proceeds of the concert will be going back into the school and the community’s educational programs.
Here’s a little bit of info about Montclair High School: it’s located at 100 Chestnut Street in Montclair. It was founded in the 19th century and quickly outgrew its original building (which was torn down), and the school has since resided in its current location. The school accommodates ninth through twelfth grade with current school population at 1,969 students and about 157 teachers. It has also been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Secondary Schools since 1928.
The Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence was founded in 1991 to help generate funds for community support for Montclair public schools and to help better the educational experience of the public schools students. The fund achieves this by its three goals: grant programs, initiatives which help support additional educational programs such as tutoring and events such as the Joe Walsh benefit concert being held at the school to raise money.
If you love classic rock and want to support your community come and buy a ticket to probably the coolest benefit concerts you will ever go to!
