Photography Tips at MAM

The Montclair Art Museum offers many workshops, including a photography workshop on Aug. 9 enabling you to learn how to take pictures of your artwork.

The Montclair Art Museum, located on South Mountain Avenue, is a place for people of all ages. The museum hosts events throughout the year for many different groups of people, and there are great things to see throughout the summer to keep you busy! If you are an artist looking to share your work with the world, taking good photos is an important selling point. Learn how to take proper pictures of your artwork at the Montclair Art Museum with the photography workshop on Aug. 9.

According to the Montclair Art Museum’s website, montclairartmuseum.com, “You have worked hard to hone your craft and created art that you want the world to see. Now you need high-quality digital photos so that you can share your talent online. Don’t settle with cellphone pictures and poor lighting! Bring your artwork to our Digital Media Lab and learn to photograph it like a professional to ensure that your hard work and talent is truly captured. Students may bring paintings, sculptures and ceramic artwork. 2D art should be no larger than 30×40” and 3D art no larger than 30x20x20.” Limit of five 2D pieces and two 3D pieces of art per student. Please bring a flash drive to store your digital photos.”

Admission to the photography workshop is $40 for members and $60 for non members. The photography program takes place at the Montclair Art Museum, which is located at 3 South Mountain Avenue in Montclair and is open on Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. The museum is closed in observance of holidays, so be sure to check out the website for any closings before you make your summer holiday plans.

Entry to the Montclair Art Museum every day is $12 for nonmember adults, $10 for seniors over 65 and students with ID, free for members and free for children under 12.

The Montclair Art Museum also has art studio space that can be rented out for parties and other events. In addition, the third floor has a gallery, family learning lab and digital media lab. The lower level also has a children’s arcade gallery and art school arcade gallery where the art made from those who have visited the museum hang on the wall.

The museum brings together an assortment of different art galleries to show the wide range of art across different centuries. With a combination of modern and contemporary Art, eighteenth and nineteenth Century American Art and Native American art, the museum houses pieces by George McNeil, Jack Whitten, Edward Middleton Manigault and Van Dearing Perrine.

The Montclair Art Museum may not be as large as The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, but the art that is displayed in this museum offers just as much insight into art culture. Be sure to take advantage of this staple of culture in Montclair this summer!
