Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts brings fashion to Montclair in addition to dance.

There’s more to dancewear than just dance!  You might think that an old leotard or pair of ballet slippers can’t be worn outside of lessons, but these pieces have many purposes.  Both items are so versatile that they can actually be paired with almost any outfit.

The leotard is a close-fitting, one-piece garment that is made of stretchy fabric and covers a person’s upper body.  It is typically worn with leggings or tights, but you may also want to try styling it with a mini skirt.  Unlike a shirt, the leotard doesn’t have to be tucked into anything because it’s basically a one-piece suit.  Thus, you can say goodbye to pesky wrinkles and constantly worrying about that top popping out.  Also, consider tucking a leotard into high-waisted pants and top off the look with a leather jacket to make it fall or winter appropriate.

Ballet flats are also particularly trendy right now, especially for the fall.  You can wear a pair of ballet flats with jeans, skirts, evening dresses, or even leggings.  They are appropriate for work or school and prove to be way more comfortable than a pair of heels.  If that’s not enough, they are also small enough to tuck into a purse, making them perfect if you want to change shoes in the middle of the day.

You can purchase all of this dance merchandise and more from Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts store.  Stacy Costner, store buyer said, “We have a large variety of brands including Capezio, Baltogs, Sansha and Watercolors.  All dance essentials can be found in our store such as slippers, leotards, tights and shoes for jazz and tap.”

Let’s not forget that you can also use your dancewear for an actual dance lesson and there’s no better place to learn the art than Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts in Montclair, N.J.  Unlike its competitors, the academy is a not for profit organization that believes dance can not only create balance and discipline, but also have the power to transform lives.  Sharron Miller, the Founder and Director of the facility, is on a mission to provide comprehensive, inclusive developmental training in dance and related theater arts for children, teens and adults.

There are many supporters of Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts including the Turrell Fund, the Victoria Foundation, the Hyde and Watson Foundation, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, the Stone Foundation and more.

“We are always in need of donations that allow young people to access and participate in dance.  We couldn’t do what we do without our donors,” Miller said.
