Acappello: A New Meaning to Italian Cuisine

Take a ride to Acappello on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair for an Italian experience that is sure to keep you coming back for more.

Acappello offers Italian food to sing about.

The name may suggest a company of singers, but this Acappello adds Italian harmony to a restaurant in Montclair. It is one of Montclair’s newest additions to the dining scene. A high note was hit with fine food and the atmosphere of Italy.

Acappello is located on Bloomfield Avenue. To be exact, at the corner neighboring the Wellmont Theater. A step inside the restaurant takes you to Southern Europe. Brick walls and painted murals expose the restaurant as a foreign estate. There are three different rooms. Each a unique dining experience, accommodate the night according to the patrons being served.

Upon entering Acappello, a host will greet you immediately. To your left you will find a large dining table, set to serve a private party or your Italian family. Look up to find an additional level, a section of the restaurant that comforts a diner seeking something new for a night out. Bask in the elegance of tables lined with white cloths and cutlery that shines under dim lighting. After enjoying the scenic interpretation of Italy, it is time place your order.

The Acappello menu presents options for Italian food lovers and explanations of ingredients for those unable to understand. There are numerous options of delicious food. Some choices include Sausage Siciliano for $9.95, including brocolli rabe, beans and sausage. An entrée such as Chicken Scarpiello for $21.95, including chicken sauteed with hot cherry peppers, sausage, mushrooms, garlic with fresh herbs and white wine. The menu is sorted from lunch to dinner to dessert. Also from appetizers to salads to soups to paninis to pasta and ending with a sweet selection, such as the Italian staple of gelato. For a full menu visit their webpage at acappelloristorante.com.

I tried the Spaghetti Carbonara for $21.95. It is a pasta dish with pancetta, garlic, Parmesan cheese, fried egg and cream. I would usually play it safe with a salad, but being rather hungry after a long day of classes, I opted for something more filling from Acappello. And I did not regret my decision.

The pasta was on point, speaking as a non-connoisseur. I thought the combination of a sweet cream sauce with the salty bits of bacon livened up a dish. I would normally deem doubtful of delicious for dinner. The service didn’t fail either. The food pleasantly fulfilled my hunger. If a future date was curious for a setting, I would definitely present the option of Acappello.
