The Art of Writing class runs from Feb. 11 to March 18, on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Yard School of Art. The course is $180 and is open to all genders ages 10 to 13.

According to the Montclair Art Museum website, all young writers and art lovers are able to “use the Museum as your muse while developing and strengthening vital writing skills and expanding your creative expression. This session we will focus on themes and topics inspired by MAM’s exhibit Come As You Are: Art of the 1990’s. A certified Language Arts teacher will work with students to hone fundamentals while encouraging expressive writing through poetry, opinion pieces, short stories and more.”

The MAM was founded in 1914. According to their website, “the museum, along with its Yard School of Art, engages a diverse community through its distinctive collection of American and Native American art, exhibitions and educational programs that link art to contemporary life in a global context.”

The MAM is one of the only museums in the country with exhibits featuring American and Native American art, totaling over 12,000 pieces.  The American collection encompasses paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture and more dating from the 18th century to the present. Additionally, the museum features the work of George Inness. It is the only gallery in the world dedicated solely to the work of painter Inness. He lived in Montclair from 1885 to 1894 and painted in the area.

The Montclair Art Museum (MAM) is located at 3 South Mountain Avenue in Montclair, and can be reached by phone at (973) 746-5555.
