The Beach Boys are a rock band formed in California in 1961. The group’s original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and their friend Al Jardine. The band’s early music gained popularity for their distinct vocal harmonies and lyrics reflecting a southern California youth culture of surfing, cars and romance.
In 1966, the Pet Sounds album and the “Good Vibrations” single featured an intricate and multi-layered sound that represented a departure from the simple surf rock of the Beach Boys’ early years. The group had over 80 songs chart worldwide, 36 of them United States Top 40 hits.
America is rock band formed in 1970 Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek and Gerry Beckley, who first met in London and began performing live together. America gained popularity in the 1970s, and was famous for the trio’s vocal harmonies and light acoustic sound. This popularity was confirmed by a string of hit albums and singles, many of which found airplay on pop stations.
