Some people hear the word blanket scarf and immediately feel overwhelmed.  When you picture trying to sport an entire blanket as an accessory, it’s no wonder that the trend has been called into question.  However, never fear, because although this fashion item is large, there are small ways to incorporate it into your fall wardrobe.  The blanket scarf has become an essential for cold weather seasons due to its versatility.  It can convert into a large variety of styles including different types of outerwear such as vests and ponchos.  Before trying this accessory, it is important to know how to fold it in order to create the desired look.  That’s why we have listed the directions for some of the most popular blanket scarf styles out there!

The Condensed Blanket Scarf

  1. The first step is to lay your scarf out flat on the floor.  It should look like a large square.
  2. Fold a corner of your blanket so that it is touching the corner that is diagonal to it.  Now your scarf should look like a triangle.
  3. Pick up the triangle and hold it so that it hangs upside down and wrap the front around your neck pulling both ends near your shoulders.  Continue to pull each end in front of you to the desired length.

The Pull Through Scarf

  1. Begin by folding your blanket scarf into a thin rectangle.
  2. Drape the scarf around your neck allowing the ends to hang in equal length down each side.
  3. Wrap both ends around your neck and then pull them through the opening of the scarf in the center.

The Belted Poncho

  1. First, lay your scarf flat on the floor.  It should look like a large square.
  2. Fold a corner of your blanket so that it is touching the corner that is diagonal to it.  Now your scarf should look like a triangle.
  3. Wrap the triangle around your shoulders so that it drapes down near the front of your legs.
  4. Using your belt of choice, finish the look by belting your poncho at the waist.  This will ensure that your poncho will stay put all day long.
