MHD offers blood profile screening.
Keeping track of your blood levels is a good habit to keep, which you can do by getting routine blood profile screening. The Montclair Health Department is partnering up with the Porite Laboratories to hold a low-cost complete blood profile screening on Saturday, Sept. 26, starting at 8 a.m., at the Montclair Municipal Building which is located at 205 Claremont Avenue.
According to a recent announcement about the blood profile screening, “Over 20 values will be tested. The blood profile includes a CBC, blood cholesterol levels, HDL or ‘good’ cholesterol levels and LDL, or ‘bad’ cholesterol. Other components of the blood such as glucose, calcium, uric acid, bilirubin and albumin are also measured.”
The blood profile screening costs $36, and there are additional tests being offered for an extra fee: T3 for $12, T4 $12, TSH $25 and PSA $30. According to Lab Tests Online, the T3 test “is used to assess thyroid function. It is ordered primarily to help diagnose hyperthyroidism and may be ordered to help monitor treatment of a person with a known thyroid disorder.” Additionally, T4 testing is “used to help evaluate thyroid function and diagnose thyroid diseases, includinghyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, usually after discovering that the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level is abnormal.”
TSH testing also examines thyroid function: “it is often the test of choice for evaluating thyroid function and/or symptoms of a thyroid disorder, including hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism.”
The PSA test can help determine – if prostrate cancer has been diagnosed – “the effectiveness of treatment. It may also be ordered at regular intervals after treatment to detect recurrence of the cancer.”
