Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck Set to Amaze Wellmont Theater.
Brian Wilson will be bringing music to the Wellmont Theater alongside Jeff Beck on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The Wellmont Theater is located at 5 Seymour Street in Montclair, N.J., just off of Bloomfield Avenue. Tickets are still available, but only while they last!
California native Wilson began his career with the Beach Boys in 1961. In that time, they developed hits like “Barbara Ann,” “Good Vibrations” and “California Girls.” About a year ago, they separated due to a disagreement between Brian Wilson and fellow artist Mike Love. Love chose to go on tour but failed to invite Brian Wilson and select other members. Wilson took this as an insult and decided to take the remaining members with him on a new musical journey.
In recent years, Brian Wilson has been working with Disney producing two records. One was an album of his interpretation of famous Gershwin pieces, as well as finishing a partially-written Gershwin original and the other album being covers of well-known Disney classics.
He met two time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jeff Beck in 2005 when Wilson was awarded Person of the Year at the Grammys by the MusiCares Charity. Beck performed as part of his tribute despite his background in heavier rock music.
Though the combination of the light hearted California performer and the man who set the stage for heavy metal might sound a bit odd on paper, their performance together is said be unique, bringing a new twist to the classic Beach Boy vibe. The pair will be joined on stage by former Beach Boys, Al Jardine and David Marks.
They are calling their collaboration Metropolis, which means a busy city or area filled with commerce and culture. The Bloomfield Ave area where the historic Wellmont Theatre is located is a beautiful representation of just that location.
Surrounded by small businesses and unique eateries, this district has something for everyone to enjoy with its city like feel so close to home. Just make sure you get their early because one thing it can’t get enough of is parking. There is street parking as well as a few paid local lots that you may be directed to depending on spot availability.
Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck’s tickets are still available for this rare mash up performance. Tickets range from $97.00- $116.50 and can be purchased at the Wellmont Box Office or online.
