Coming the first weekend of April is Danceworks 2016.
Montclair State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will be bringing Danceworks 2016 to the Alexander Kasser stage starting the first weekend of April. This show will feature some of MSU’s very own students and faculty, as well as guest artists. The Kasser Theater is a beautiful venue for this upcoming evening of dance. It allows for five-star performances to be held locally right here in Montclair.
The headlining piece of this evening is titled Panorama, choreographed by the legendary Martha Graham in 1935. The talented students in the Department of Theatre and Dance will bring this historic work of modern dance to life. Another piece that will be feature is titled Colleen Ann and choreographed by Seattle-based artist Pat Graney. Graney is a 2013 Doris Duke Artist Award winner; there is no doubt that his work will leave the audience in awe. Other choreographers are Nancy Lushington, Christian Von Howard and Earl Mosley.
MSU’s Department of Theatre and Dance never ceases to amaze audiences with its talented group of students. The programs in this department are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theater (NAST) and Dance (NASD). Being just outside New York City makes Montclair State a popular destination for guest choreographers and performers. The department has won awards at many festivals, conferences and conventions over the years.
“Our faculty, students and guest choreographers have performed their work at these fantastic conferences where students from around the United States share their works,” said Montclair State’s dance professor, Lorraine Katterhenry.
Students enrolled in the Department of Theatre and Dance rehearse daily to prepare themselves for shows. With such a passionate faculty, it is no wonder why the students are so talented and dedication. The College of the Arts at MSU is audition based, accepting only the best. Students graduate as artists, ready to work as performers, choreographers or both!
