On Feb. 7, funk-pop group DNCE, led by Joe Jonas, will play at The Wellmont Theater.
After the Jonas Brothers’ meteoric rise to fame fizzled out, many were left wondering what the New Jersey trio would do next. Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas had impressed the nation, the nation’s teenage girl population more than anyone else. Nonetheless, music fans everywhere pondered where the brothers’ talents would take them.
In 2015, Joe Jonas answered that question in the form of his new dance-pop group, DNCE. The idea for DNCE had its beginning far before 2015, when Joe Jonas and Jonas Brothers’ drummer Jack Lawless came up with the idea. The band performed secret shows in New York City to prepare for their eventual reveal, where they released their first single “Cake By the Ocean” through Republic Records. Since the hit, the group has become well-known through social media, along with keeping an engaged fanbase through frequent shows and competitions on their website, www.dnce.com.
The group will be playing at The Wellmont Theater on Feb. 7. The venue is known to be perfect for dance music, due to its large standing area and acoustics. Casey DalCantona, an Essex Fells resident that attended the Hyperglow dance party at the Wellmont in 2015, spoke of her excitement for both the show and the return of a Jonas Brother. “I’m sure I can speak for a lot of girls when I say I’m happy Joe [Jonas] got involved in music again,” said DalCantona. “I loved him as a teenager and now that he’s doing more mature music with DNCE I can still jam to him. Wellmont prices are cheap and I love it there ever since Hyperglow. The lights and sound systems are perfect.”
DNCE will be well accustomed to the atmosphere that The Wellmont provides. The group’s tour has consisted mostly of small-medium size venues such as the Wellmont. Their sound is best experienced within small venues.
