Elements of Oz by Builders Association.
It’s the second week of classes at Montclair State University, which means that the Peak Performances at Kasser Theater is coming back into full swing! Be sure to mark on your calendar the premiere of Elements of Oz by the Builders Association, a show that is extremely inventive – and will let you use your phone during the performance.
Elements of Oz will run on Sept. 26 and Oct. 3 at 8 p.m., Sept. 27 and Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. and finally on Oct. 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kasser Theater, which is on the campus of Montclair State University located next to the Red Hawk Deck. According to the Peak Performances website, “The endlessly inventive Builders Association, led by Marianne Weems, returns to Peak Performances with its lighthearted 21st century mash-up of the classic The Wizard of Oz, featuring YouTube fanatics, heavy metal and a heartfelt recreation of the iconic film. As a bonus, for once, you can turn on your cell phone – the stage action will be enhanced by interactivity with viewers’ smart phones, delivering the Technicolor Land of Oz of our imaginations.” According to The New York Times, “The dazzling shows of The Builders Association make just about every other theater company look as if it is living in the past.”
The show is 75 minutes with no intermission.
Food options are available on campus as well at the Red Hawk Diner that is open all night. It is located on the far side of the campus. Another option for light refreshments after Elements of Oz is Cafe Diem, which now serves food from Au Bon Pain. It is located close to the Kasser Theater. The cafe is located next to the library, which is across from the theater, and the diner is just a short walk across campus. Please feel free to check out of these food services.
Tickets for Elements of Oz are available at the box office located in the Alexander Kasser Theater or online at the Peak Performances website, peakperfs.org. Montclair undergraduate students are permitted one free ticket with their student ID. All tickets are $20. The Kasser Theater is located towards the front of campus next to the Red Hawk Parking Deck. Parking is available in the Red Hawk Deck as well as the Transit Parking Deck across campus. Public transportation that runs directly in front of the Kasser Theater is also available. If you are traveling in from the city, Peak Performances is now offering a Peak Bus. Peak Performances runs a charter bus service to and from Manhattan for all Saturday and Sunday performances, and tickets can be purchased along with your show tickets.
