Gianni Schicchi: An MSU Opera Piece

Montclair State University will be brought back in time when the Kasser Theater performs an Italian inspired classic of Puccini's, titled 'Gianni Schicchi.'

This weekend, the Montclair State University Opera is set to perform Gianni Schicchi, an amazing opera piece by Puccini. The piece is directed by Jeffrey Gall and will be accompanied by the Montclair State Symphony Orchestra with Ken Lam as conductor.

According to the Peak Performances website, Gianni Schicchi is “in collaboration with MSU’s Coccia Institute for the Italian Experience in America” and will “[present] two fully staged performances of Puccini’s comic masterpiece with orchestra.” The piece will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. The piece follows Gianni Schicchi as he tries to get his hands on the money of a man who passed away and left his fortune to charity.

Tickets for Gianni Schicchi are available for $15 at the Kasser Theater Box office, or online at peakperfs.org. Montclair undergraduate students are permitted one free ticket with their student ID. Showtimes are May 3 at 8 p.m. and May 4 at 3 p.m.

Refreshments are available at the concession stand before the performance but no food or drink is permitted inside the theater at any time. For light foods and coffee, Cafe Diem is located in close proximity to the theater and connected to the library. For a full menu available 24/7, the Red Hawk Diner is located on the far end of campus.

The Kasser Theater is located towards the front of campus next to the Red Hawk Parking Deck. Parking is available in the Red Hawk Deck as well as the Transit Parking Deck across campus. Public transportation that runs directly in front of the Kasser Theater is also available.
