Grammy Awards Glamour

The Grammy Awards may be the biggest night for music, but it is also known for its unexpected and jaw-dropping fashion statements held on the red carpet.

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards, also known as music’s biggest night of the year, was aired on Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif. Most celebrities opted for elegance instead of outrageous this year. It was surely achieved.

Typically, fashion at the Grammy Awards is known to be more wild and boundary-pushing. Other award shows is where elegance and sophistication is expected. At the Grammy Awards, however, it’s a more laidback and fun environment where stars let loose and dress the unexpected. Sadly, this year, no stars chose to rock a naval-deep neckline dress like Jennifer Lopez in 2000. Stars exchanged low necklines and provocative clothing for gowns and glamour. The night was breathtaking.

Taking elegance by storm, a big trend on the red carpet was metallics at this year’s Grammy Awards. Embracing the trend, the favorite of the evening was definitely Taylor Swift. She wore a Gucci Première gold lamé short-sleeve column dress with crystal overlay. The dress was perfectly fit and glistened on the red carpet. The dress looked as if she was covered in full chain mail. If looked closely you could see that the collar and the whole chainmail of the dress was laced with rhinestones. Rachel Zoe even posted a photo of Swift on her Instagram during the show. She captioned, “Best dressed at the Grammys in full on glamour.” She even hash tagged the words “dress envy” and “perfection,” which means Swift got the ultimate stamp of approval from stylist Rachel Zoe herself. This was a big fashion statement.

Another star rocking the trend was Ciara. She was extra beautiful with her baby bump. Ciara showed off her gorgeous curves and glowing skin in a metallic bronze Emilio Pucci gown. It had a sequin decorative pattern, a mermaid tail and a peek-a-boo neckline. It was held together by designer string. Other stars that looked amazing in metallics were John Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen in a gold gown by Johanna Johnson. Amber Rose was in a gold Naeem Khan gown. Rita Ora was in a short, woven metallic Lanvin cocktail dress. Metallic themed dresses were the highlight of the night.

Katy Perry wore a musically influenced gown by Valentino. It is still not determined whether the look was a hit or miss. The gown, however, was absolutely stunning. The gown was sheer and fitted at the bodice and then flared out. It revealed musical notes detailed on the skirt. That night, Perry also performed her hit song “Dark House” with Juicy J. It was literally a Salem Witch Trial’s fright fest. It included dancing horses, broomstick pole dancing, and fire rings. It was definitely a great and memorable performance. Perry did, as always, fantastic. She never fails to impress the crowd.

Speaking of performances at the Grammy Awards, Swift also performed her song “All Too Well” that night. She did an exceptional job. One thing that cannot go without mentioning was her gorgeous gown. I, personally, was gushing over from the moment she came on my television screen. Swift changed into a grey chiffon gown by Alberta Ferretti. It had beautiful embellishments that draped across her arms. Swift looked elegant and feminine. She definitely scored two for two with both brilliant looks that night.

Lastly, a star that cannot go without being mentioned is the always-so-flawless Beyoncé. Opening up the show was her provocative performance of “Drunk in Love.” She performed with Jay-Z. Being the power couple that they are, the two were absolutely on fire on stage. They really set the bar high for the rest of the evening. Although, she did not walk the red carpet Sunday evening, Beyoncé got lots of attention after switching. She changed into a gorgeous sheer white floral lace gown after her performance. The gown was actually designed by Michael Costello from Project Runway. Costello spoke on the gown and that it was entirely handmade. He wanted it to be something that would stand out and be extra special. After seeing Beyoncé in that gown Costello’s objective was definitely achieved.

There was a lot going on at the Grammy Awards. The endless amount of gorgeous gowns and excellent performances all the way down to Pharrell’s outrageous hat. The hat which I tried so hard not to bring up. I just could not go without mentioning. It was definitely the most-talked about look of the night. It was being compared to so many things. One being that it looked a lot like the Arby’s hat logo. All jokes aside, the hat is actually a handmade “mountain” hat. It was made by Vivienne Westwood. Everyone can poke fun, but Pharrell walked away with a few Grammy Awards, and for his hat? His hat scored a few hundred parody Twitter accounts with thousands of followers.

The Grammy Awards had a ton of fashion hits and a few misses. Stars showed up in elegant gowns and changed up the exotic looks from past years. No one arrived in a gigantic egg carried by four men like Lady Gaga. I guess that’s a good thing? It was a big night for music and fashion. In fact, both were achieved. It made the night extremely memorable. It is something people will still be talking about for the next few weeks. I’m looking forward to what next year has in store for us.
