Saturday, August 15 will be here soon; save the date for the Montclair Jazz Festival! Held at Nishuane Park, more than 5,000 people are expected to show up to view some of the greatest legends in jazz perform their best work at the end of summer. Produced by Jazz House Kids, this is a free event for people of all ages to attend (but bring your own lawn chairs; you’ll need them). The outdoor event begins at 12 p.m. and concludes at 8 p.m., making it convenient for attendees to connect with the nature of Montclair and its community while listening to the smooth rhythms of jazz. Different variations of jazz tunes will be performed by musicians of different musical styles.

This year’s host is none other than the one and only Christian McBride. The Grammy award winning bassist will present the talented group of musicians to the large crowd. One especially exciting artist expected to perform at the Jazz Festival is Paquito D’Rivera. Born in Havana, Cuba, D’Rivera played the clarinet and saxophone for the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra at the tender age of 17 and is responsible for creating what we know today as Latin jazz. He directed the Orquesta Cubana de Musica Moderna for two years as well and also took part in founding the group. D’Rivera successfully and extensively combined the styles of jazz, rock, classical and traditional Cuban sounds to develop inimitable music that also led to him to become a renowned composer. The 13 time Grammy Award Winner Paquito D’Rivera will bring a taste of Latin jazz to Montclair in addition to the many other talented musicians.

Just as McBride is taking part in ensuring a great event, you too can volunteer and be a part of the excitement. The Montclair Jazz Fest is currently seeking volunteers to help set up and break down equipment, operate merchandise sales, and assist in other areas of the event. The various volunteer opportunities can be found at montclairjazzfestival.org/volunteers.

As the date approaches, more information of the music line up will be available at their website. To the Montclair business owners interested in getting involved, you can advertise your business in the Montclair Jazz Festival program books. Everything you need to know about advertisements can be found here. Remember, over 5,000 people are expected to attend this event, it’s a sure fire way to get your business the attention it deserves. Advertisement’s must be submitted by August 4.

Stay tuned, more information about the festival and a thorough musical line-up will be available in the coming weeks.
