Merrily We Roll Along to be performed by Montclair State students.
The John J. Cali School of Music and Department of Theater and Dance at Montclair State University are preparing for an adaptation of Merrily We Roll Along, set to run the stage in the first week of February for another spectacular show on the Peak Performances lineup.
This show features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim with the book by George Furth. It is based on the original play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, with musical direction by Gregory J. Dlugos and direction and musical staging by Joe Joyce.
The story revolves around Franklin Shepard who, having once been a talented composer of Broadway musicals, has now abandoned his friends and his songwriting career to become a producer of Hollywood movies.
According to the Peak Performances website, “Merrily We Roll Along expertly blends the excitement and energy of a backstage musical with the contemporary, emotional story about the value of staying true to one’s ideals in the pursuit of success.”
Merrily We Roll Along will be performed from Feb. 5-8 at 8 p.m. Tickets are not required for this show, as this show is free to the public.
Refreshments are available at the concession stand before the performance but no food or drink is permitted inside the theater at any time. For light foods and coffee, Cafe Diem is located in close proximity to the theater and connected to the library. For a full menu available 24/7, the Red Hawk Diner is located on the far end of campus.
Parking is available in the Red Hawk Deck as well as the Transit Parking Deck across campus. Public transportation that runs directly in front of the Kasser Theater is also available. If you are traveling in from the city, Peak Performances is now offering a Peak Bus. Peak Performances runs a charter bus service to and from Manhattan for all Saturday and Sunday performances, and tickets can be purchased along with your show tickets.
