MFEE 2016: MHS Alumni Participation

Montclair High School alumni are representing their hometown in the MFEE's Amazing Fundracer 2016 on Sun. May 22!

MFEE’s MHS Alumni are ready to show off their mastered skills of endurance and strong teamwork!

Coming soon to Montclair is MFEE’s annual Amazing Fundracer, taking place on May 22. The day of the race, 50 teams of two will race across Montclair on foot and by bike. Teams will compete and slowly dwindle down to a top four as they get clues by completing challenges at each location. The final teams will race to the finish line at Egan & Son’s.
Alongside the many teams that have already registered, Montclair High School has seen many participants already sign up for the event. Of the many teams from MHS, some alumni have decided to join in the fun!
One alumni team is Mac and Cheese, of the Class of 2014. This team features Audrey Hertzberg and Ben Rodriquez-Vars. “[Hertzberg] is fabulous,” said MFEE Executive Director Masiel Rodriquez-Vars. “She is a sophomore at George Washington right now, and was class president of MHS in 2014. Audrey truly loved MHS. She’s a very spirited alum who will be racing alongside some of her former teachers.”

Racing alongside Hertzberg is her boyfriend, Ben Rodriquez-Vars, a sophomore at Yale and son to Executive Director Masiel Rodriquez-Vars.  According to Masiel Rodriquez-Vars, they will reunite on the race course after a long year apart.
“Ben is a sophomore at Yale, and is perhaps the most competitive person on the planet, but appears very cool and chill on the outside,” said Masiel Rodriquez-Vars. “Ben was the type of kid who played to dominate in gym class. And he even completes puzzles competitively against his family members.”
Another alumni team is Axelsquad, of the Class of 2014 and the only parent/child team currently registered. This team is comprised of Emma Axelrod, a sophomore at Brown University, and her father Jim Axelrod.

According to Rodriquez-Vars, Emma Axelrod is all about exploring her strong feminist voice and her father, Jim Axelrod, is a CBS correspondent. He was also the speaker at his daughter’s graduation.
