Minions movie opening weekend earnings rank second best among animated movies.
The Minions movie was released in theaters on July 10 and so far has been nothing short of a blockbuster. As the prequel for Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2, the animated film follows three young, brave minions on their journey to find a villain evil enough to be their boss. Finally, the world gets a behind-the-scenes look at how and where the minions originated. The movie, raking in over $115.7 million over opening weekend alone, is made for all ages, and set in the great 1950s era.
Obtaining a master is the minions first priority of life. Master after master, they seek out the perfect person to fall servant to. As quoted from the trailer, “Finding a master is easy. Keeping a master, well… not so much.” As all Despicable Me fans know with the minions comes trouble, thus proving to be problematic for their master, often causing doom over entire operations. Before working for their villainous masters, they are a tribe of their own. Desperate for an evil villain, three minions set out on a quest to bring their tribe a leader! This leader must be pure evil. The three young minions go on a quest to find the worst of the worst, enter Scarlet Overkill.
Scarlet Overkill (played by Sandra Bullock) is the minions first ever boss and takes the screen to present her mighty villainous manners. Because she is a female villain, she is somewhat of a nontraditional threat in terms of cartoon cinema. Her husband is a top henchman. The minions aspire to work for the Overkill’s especially; but to find out why, you’ll have to see the flick for yourself. As single celled organisms, the minions adapt to follow each and any species. The trailer shows the minions have not only humans as their masters, but also a wide variety of leaders ranging from dinosaurs to mythical creatures.
This is the first of the Despicable Me series that focuses solely on the minions–hooray! (Not that the other two films weren’t wonderful, as well.) As a viewer, it is expected to feel personally attached to Stuart, Kevin and Bob. In fact, Bob was proven a fan favorite when speaking to Montclair locals, “King Bob is the best!” The movie elaborates on the minions personalities all the while showcasing their love, friendship and loyalty to one another in a way you have never seen before. Bellevue Cinema at 260 Bellevue Ave, Montclair N.J. has showtimes all week. Go minions!
