Montclair High School football wins state championship.
The Montclair High School football team has won the State Championship for the third time running. It was 40 degrees and pouring but the fans stuck it out to cheer their team on to a win.
Montclair High School took on Passaic Tech at Metlife Stadium in the championship game, and their defeat gave them their third straight North 1 Group 5 title.
The Montclair Mounties started off the game uncharacteristically slow, but it took no more than four minutes into the game to get their normal upbeat playing back.
According to a report by NJ.com, “Quarterback Elijah Robinson got the Mounties out of their funk with a game-tying, 64-yard touchdown run and proved to be the same-old star finishing with 294 all-purpose yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns to lead Montclair, No. 9 in The NJ.com Top 20, to a 26-14 victory in the NJSIAA/SportsCare Institute North Jersey, Section 1, Group 5 final at MetLife Stadium.”
Quarterback Elijah Robinson had an amazing game and is leaving a lasting impact as a senior ready to graduate from Montclair High School. He has three state titles, a 23-1 record as a starter, a 35-1 record as a varsity player, First Team All-State honors and head-turning statistics that will “forever rank Robinson amongst the best ever in Essex County,” according to NJ.com.
